Curtain call for a magic Irish night
THIRD time lucky? Sheffield Lyceum theatre is inviting eight couples whose night out at the theatre was ruined when the safety curtain failed to rise after the interval - to a free night out there.

It had jammed first during Equus and then Sleuth,
both times on a Friday.

Theatre boss Angela Galvin, pictured, is giving them free drinks and tickets for the Irish dance extravaganza, Magic of the Dance.

But first the safety curtain will do a turn.

"We would like to show everyone the curtain as it works now with an explanation from our technical stage manager as to the previous problems," says theatre spokesman Philip Strafford.

Popster parks-up at picture house
VETERAN popster Dave Berry is giving a concert to buy a car park. Friends of the Abbeydale Picture House want to buy its car park so he's putting on a show to raise the cash in the cinema on Friday, July 11.

"I used to go to the cinema as a kid," says Dave, who has just done the Palladium.

Parking tickets cost £15 from the box office on 07775 966 106.

How about rat for park festival
SOUNDS a laugh a minute at the Firth Park Festival this Saturday when two volunteers will dress up as rats to draw attention to rodent infestation.

And children will get prizes for who collects the most litter. Didn't that used to be called detention?
