Up to 10 staff to be let go from Sheffield protective clothing business

Management at Progressive Safety Limited, which produces protective footwear and clothing, verified that a maximum of 10 employees will be let go from the business after they formally started a redundancy process today.
Executives said they anticipate that a number of the proposed job losses will be voluntary redundancies and staff allegedly heard the news via a letter sent out by the company.

Progressive Safety as founded by John Topham in 1961, who started out selling steel toecap boots to miners before moving into the business’ first premises in the Old Vinegar Brewery in the East End of the city.
The company continued to expand under the founder’s son, Howard Topham who became the managing director and the company moved into a 34,000 square foot distribution centre in Darnall in 1995.
