Martek Marine, the Roth-erham-based global leader in shipboard environmental and safety monitoring technology, has completed a £1 million deal with Greek-based tanker operator Metrostar Management Corporation.
Metrostar has bought seven of Martek's MariNOx emissions control systems for its tankers in addition to four systems it bought two years ago.

The award winning Mari-NOx system helps shipping companies meet tough legislation on greenhouse gas emiss
ions by checking for levels of carbon dioxides, sulphur dioxides and nitrous oxides created by ship engines.

It also increases the fuel efficiency of the vessels, reducing fuel consumption by up to four per cent.

Martek Marine managing directo Paul Luen said: "Incr-easingly strict legislation on emissions is prompting many companies to put MariNOx onboard their ships to reduce the impact of their operations on the environment, as well as boosting savings on fuel costs.

"MariNOx tackles two of the biggest challenges we are presented with in the 21st century: concerns about climate change and soaring energy costs.

"We were first to market with the technology and have seen our export sales rocket ever since."

The Manvers-based company reckons MariNOx has captured around 98 per cent of the world market and is helping it to continue the growth it has achieved since it was founded in 2000.

Having started out with three founding directors, the company has grown to employ 40 people, while its turnover has gone to £10 million, earned from 60 countries.

The business has won numerous awards, including two Queen's Awards for Enterprise, the CBI's Growing Business Award and several Seatrade Awards.

Earlier this year the Mari-NOx system won a Seatrade Award for Protection of the Marine and Atmospheric Environment.
