CLINTON Woods has confirmed he has switched trainers in his attempts to win back his world title.
The Sheffield light-heavyweight will be aided by Hillsborough's Glyn Rhodes at Sheffield Boxing Centre.

Woods said: "I feel I need a change of direction after what happened in America," he said, referring to his points loss to Antonio Tarver, who captured his IBF belt.

"There are no hard feelings. Me and Richard Poxon (former trainer who guided him to the title) are friends.

"But this is the start of a new chapter in my career and I am 100 per cent committed to reclaiming my world title."

Woods said he had got his "hunger" back after the defeat in Tampa.

"I realise it is a long haul back but I am going to train my heart out," he vowed.

"I have been swimming, riding and running - mixing things up - and I feel fresh and ready for anything."

Woods hopes to fight a contender in the top 15 in the ratings in September.

Potential opponents include Texan Reggie Johnson, Frenchman Rachid Kanfouah, Antonio Brancalion, from Veneto, Italy, and Yuri Barashain, of the Ukraine.

"After that, I hope to be made mandatory opposition for the title again," he said.

Woods does not think that he will get the chance to win his belt back from Tarver.

"I don't think he'll be around much longer, I think he'll get beaten next time," he said.

Doncaster's Jason Rushton travelled to Portsmouth for a late-night six-round contest against Isle of Wight boxer Jay Morris and secured a 59-57 winning verdict.
