THERE were differing fortunes for the two Sheffield stabled boxers in action at Derby University yesterday afternoon.
Derby light-welterweight Jack Perry moved to 7-0-1 as a pro with a 60-53 six round victory over Nuneaton's busy Kristian Laight but Worksop based Iranian Manoo Salari found himself on the wrong end of a 59-54 six round defeat at the hands of Duffield light-heavyweight Matthew Hainy.
Perry and Salari are trained at Brendan ingle's gym in Wincobank.
Perry, dictating proceedings behind the jab, raised the tempo towards the end and was rewarded when a right hook to the body of the durable Nuneaton boxer sent him sprawling to the canvas.
Salari however, despite having a weight advantage over his less experienced opponent, never fully came to grips with Hainy's pressing tactics after he was sent crashing by an excellent right hook to the head in the opening seconds of the second round.
Despite not being overly troubled again, Salari, who moving more onto the front foot took the third, never really looked like turning things around and whilst he probably deserved to finish a little closer to Hainy than the score-line of Telford referee Nigel Gill suggests the right man had his arm raised at the end.
Rotherham duo Paul Royston and Ricky Strike both slipped to 40-36 four round points defeats at Wolverhampton Civic Hall on Friday night at the hands of Black Country pair Jamie Ball and Russ Colley.
Royston found himself in with pro debutant, and former decent amateur Ball from Dudley while super-middleweight Strike was defeated by Wolverhampton southpaw Colley, despite him having a weight advantage of over a stone.
