Garry Monk has been very clear about the fact that he’s taking the club in a new direction in terms of creating a younger more dynamic Wednesday squad, and having some of the club’s youngsters take part in senior training is not something new for the SWFC boss.
The likes of Charles Hagan and Manuel Hidalgo stepped up from the U23s for preseason as Monk sought to have a closer look at them, while academy youngsters such as Alex Hunt, Matt Penney, Osaze Urhoghide and Liam Shaw are staking their claim for a spot in the first team squad.

Hide AdNow, as the Owls prepare to head into battle with Cardiff City this weekend, a video on social media has shown that young left back, Ryan Galvin, is also among things at senior level at present.
Galvin signed for Wednesday back in January from Wigan Athletic, and at 19 will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of Hunt, Shaw and Urhoghide by moving on up the ranks at S6.
Wednesday’s average has been cut substantially following a number of exits at the end of the 2019/20 season, thought it remains to be seen whether Galvin is a player who is ready to fight for a place in the matchday squad just yet, or whether he’s just being given a taste of life with the seniors at this point in time.
