Neil Thompson wasted no time in utilising the club’s new attacking player, throwing him straight into the starting XI to go up against a strong Everton side at Goodison Park in the FA Cup.
Green played the first 45 minutes in Merseyside before being replaced by Josh Windass at the break, and ‘Thommo’ thinks that he put in a good shift on his first outing in Wednesday colours.

Hide AdSpeaking to the media after the game, the interim Owls boss said, “He’s not had a lot of football, but he’s looked bright in training. He hasn’t played for six months, and had a good 45 minutes. He was blowing a bit at half time, but it was a good opportunity to have a little look at him. I thought he acquitted himself well.”
Meanwhile, regarding the decision to bring him off at the break, Thompson went on to add, “Going out and playing first team football, especially a team as quality as Everton, was always going to be a big ask for anybody. We thought 45-60, and he was blowing a bit at halftime so we thought it was right to change it.
“It was also important to get a few minutes into Josh after his injury, so that was my thinking really. The last thing you want to do is overstretch someone when they’re not quite ready.”
Next up for the Owls is a trip to Birmingham to face Coventry City at St. Andrews on Wednesday evening.
