He left the West Yorkshire club in 2012, joining Blackburn Rovers in a £8m deal. Rhodes scored an impressive 85 goals in 169 appearances.
But the goals have dried up for the 29-year-old since leaving Ewood Park. Rhodes struggled to hold down a regular starting spot at Middlesbrough and was eventually sold to Wednesday.
He has endured a tough three years at Hillsborough since becoming the club's record £8m signing, hitting a disappointing 13 goals in 65 outings. Rhodes has failed to shine and was farmed out on loan to Norwich CIty last season.

Hide AdHe returned to Wednesday in the summer and was overlooked for selection by caretaker boss Lee Bullen at the start of the season. His days with the Owls looked numbered.
But Garry Monk handed Rhodes a Wednesday lifeline earlier this month. Rhodes has started the last three fixtures and netted a stunning hat-trick in the victory over Nottingham Forest.
His return to goal-scoring form has seen him linked with a January loan move to Scottish giants Celtic. Wigan Athletic are also thought to be big admirers of Rhodes.
