The news looks set to cap off what has been a destabilising season for both sides of the Steel City divide, with both the Blades and Sheffield Wednesday locked in relegation battles few would back them to climb out of.
Asked about the news this morning, Wednesday stalwart Sam Hutchinson was asked why football in Sheffield has been so unsettled this season, with the Owls having gone through four managers themselves.

“I’ve met Chris Wilder a lot in Sheffield, I used to live in Sheffield. I know it’s obviously probably the best thing to do, but I can’t speak highly enough of him.
“He’s taken that club and with the players they had he hasn’t really changed it, he’s done fantastic.
“For Sheffield United it would be a massive shame. But we concentrate on ourselves at Sheffield Wednesday and they do what they do.
