Sheffield Wednesday legend expects Josh Windass to leave

Windass was one of Wednesday’s top performers in a grim season that ended in relegation, and there has been plenty of speculation about clubs who are keen to make sure that he stays in the Championship.
The Star has previously reported that recently-relegated Premier League duo, Fulham and West Bromwich Albion, as well as Queens Park Rangers, are interested in the attacker, while other outlets have suggested that Middlesbrough, Cardiff City and Stoke City are keeping tabs on his situation.

Hide AdWith one season – plus a possible one-year option – left on his contract, Wednesday are in the driver’s seat with regards to Windass’ future, but they may be tempted to cash in on the 27-year-old following the financial hit they’ve taken after relegation.
Palmer, who was relegated with Wednesday in 1990 and helped them back to the top-flight in 1991, gave his thoughts on the attacker to Football League World, saying, “A lot of clubs have shown interest in him from the Championship and why would he want to play in League One?
“Without a doubt, Sheffield Wednesday could satisfy his financial needs to stay there for another season, you know it’s one of those where Darren (Moore) may be able to sit down and try and show him what they are trying to do next season.
“But if you look at the likes of Fulham and West Brom, who are reportedly interested in him, these are teams that are looking to go back to the Premier League, not stay in the Championship.

Windass was bought for a figure believed to be in the region of around £500,000 from Wigan Athletic after impressing during his loan spell, and it remains to be seen what stance Dejphon Chansiri will take if offers do start to come in for him.
The Owls are yet to release their retained list, however there are lots of player set to leave Hillsborough ahead of the 2021/22 campaign that gets underway in August.
