Brown has since played in the club’s under-23s in a bid to get him up to speed. It has been 151 days and counting since his last start for Wednesday, in the 2-0 defeat at Bristol City on September 27.

Hide AdAsked whether there was more to Brown’s absence after the Brentford defeat, Thompson told The Star: “He’s part of the squad and I put the team out that I think is capable of playing the way we want to play and I think you could see that.
“Apart from the goals tonight I think it was the right team to pick tonight in terms of the energy of the team, how they’re trying to play.
“I thought they did that. But still the same issues occur, a lack of chances, a lack of goals, giving away silly goals. It’s at both ends of the pitch.”
