Moses Odubajo and Joost van Aken, who have both played a considerable part in Wednesday’s season so far, are out with a hamstring problem and an ankle injury respectively.
Thompson said: “Joost is definitely quite a long way away I would suggest and Moses is going to be a few weeks rather than a week, if you know what a mean. They’re continuing their rehab, they’re nasty injuries the pair of them and they take time, unfortunately.

The Owls stand-in boss also confirmed that neither Massimo Luongo (thigh) or Andre Green (achilles) will make it for their monster relegation clash with Birmingham City this weekend.
The news will spark speculation that van Aken, who was injured in his comeback match for the club’s under-23 side, may well be running out of time to play again for the club he joined in 2017.
The Dutchman made a suggestion to media in Holland that he would move on from Wednesday at the end of his deal, which expires in the summer.

“He’s certainly not going to be ready in the next couple of weeks and it’s something we’ll be monitoring in the next month or two.”
van Aken had said: “As a person, I would still like to be able to live and play football in another European country for a few years. Italy, Switzerland, Spain, I think that would be nice.
“My contract will expire next summer and after that I hope to embark on a nice adventure somewhere for a number of years. After that it might be time for a return to the Netherlands.”
