“My body has not been my own…” – Key Darren Moore update before Sheffield Wednesday’s Nottingham Forest clash

There had been some hope that Moore, who has been dealing with pneumonia and blood clots in the aftermath of having had COVID-19, could return at the latter end of this week, but it has now been confirmed that that will not be the case.
Wednesday offered a positive update on their manager as he continues his recovery, but said there was ‘no set time scale for a return to duty at Hillsborough’, and that for the Forest game he ‘will not be present in person but in mind will be kicking every proverbial ball’.

He said, “For my football club, for Sheffield Wednesday I cannot speak highly enough. The support staff and everyone at the club has been incredible. Our doctor, Richard Higgins, has given me specialist advice and the way he acted so quickly and efficiently was remarkable really and now I am taking the right guidance to help get me back to the right condition.
“I keep fit, I am active, but this got hold of me very quickly and that was the alarming thing. I went downhill rapidly but over the past few days I do feel my body is getting back to where it should be as an individual. That’s a big positive because my body has not been my own.
“By resting I am building my strength and energy levels which will allow my body to strengthen. I am chomping at the bit to get back but I have to listen to the medical advice.

I am touching base with my staff day to day and the next thing is being able to be there and in the building which at this moment in time is something I cannot do. I must respect the situation and the more I do that now means it is better for me in the long term.”
He went on to say that he was ‘gutted, really gutted’ to be missing this weekend’s crunch encounter, adding, “I want to be there, I want to be there at the heart of it, but I have to rest. In my absence, the staff have been more than efficient and will continue to be so.”
Wednesday face Forest at 12.30pm on Saturday, and need to pick up at least a point – and hope that Derby County don’t win – in order to take matters to the final day on May 8th.
In Moore’s absence, Jamie Smith will lead the team out once again, with Paul Williams acting as his assistant on the touchline as the Owls take to Hillsborough for the final time in the 2020/21 campaign.
