Update on fitness of Sheffield Wednesday full-back Liam Palmer after 'reckless' tackle left ankle 'like a balloon'

The tackle, which Owls boss Garry Monk described as ‘reckless’ and ‘a clear red’, saw Hoilett shown a yellow card as Palmer was forced off in the 2-1 Hillsborough defeat.
And Scotland international Palmer, who has been a near ever-present at Wednesday this season, may be looking at an extended period out depending on the results of a scan, to be undertaken in the coming days as and when swelling reduces.

Hide AdMonk described the ankle as looking ‘like a balloon’ after the game and expressed his concern. On tomorrow’s clash, he said: “He's still sore and there's still swelling on his ankle.
“He's very unlikely for the game [against Hull] and it's something we'll have to assess. We might be able to get a scan on it and get a proper prognosis.
“We're not sure [how long he’ll be out for] until we have that scan. The swelling has gone down a little bit but it's about whether it's gone down enough to have a scan we'll know today or tomorrow.”
Stopping well short of using it as an excuse for their defeat, the 40-year-old Owls boss reaffirmed his disappointment at the decision making process that saw Hoilett stay on the field.

“The disappointing thing is that, although the referee didn't have the best view of it from his angle, when you have a fourth official from four yards looking at it, you'd expect him to pick it up.
“It wasn’t a high tackle or anything but it was out of control and it was reckless with hard force. When you don't get the ball and you do that, you can see the consequences, we've had a player who's had to come off and could be out.”
