“It’s going to be a tough gig…” – What Tony Pulis said Sheffield Wednesday need after Stoke City draw
and live on Freeview channel 276
The Owls have drawn two and lost one since Pulis took over from Garry Monk earlier this month, and things don’t get any easier for them as they prepare to face Reading and Norwich this week.
Wednesday looked solid at the back as they held a free-scoring Stoke City to a 0-0 draw at Hillsborough over the weekend, but they once again looked pretty blunt up front as they struggled to create any major scoring opportunities for themselves.

Hide AdTheir lack of goals is clearly a worry for Pulis who has mentioned on numerous occasions the need to bring in more quality to S6, and he’s detailed what he thinks Wednesday need in order to start getting results once again.
Speaking after the game, the Owls boss told the media, “We’re short in areas that we need to address… The more you stay in the game, the more you understand that you need leg beaters, you need good quality off set plays, you need people who are going to want to score from set plays - but you also need goals. People who can sniff one out for you, and that’s what we’ve got to do.
“We’ve got Josh coming back soon and that’ll help us a little bit, but we need to get through to the window, and fingers crossed then - if we can - get some more quality in.”
Wednesday haven’t scored more than once since their 2-0 Carabao Cup victory over Rochdale, and have failed to score in 10 of their games across all competitions since the 2020/21 campaign got underway.

Hide AdPulis does have availability issues up front at present with Josh Windass still suspended for the clash with Reading and Jack Marriott having been ruled out for the foreseeable future due to injury – but there could well be good news for the backline as Dominic Iorfa returned to training last week.
SWFC face Reading on Wednesday night as they come up against a side that have already scored 23 goals in 2020/21 so far – nine of which have come from former Owl, Lucas Joao.
