EFL confirm Sheffield Wednesday’s 2021/22 season start date plus Carabao Cup details

The Owls will begin the new season on the weekend of Saturday, August 7, the EFL announced on Monday.
It is hoped all legal limits on social contact can be removed on June 21, which would allow supporters to return to stadiums without any restrictions for the entire 2021/22 campaign and beyond.

Hide AdUp to 10,000 supporters could be able to return to stadiums from May 17, nine days after the Owls’ final game of the current season.
The EFL also confirmed the first round of the Carabao Cup will be played in the week commencing 9 August.
Should the Owls be relegated, they will also take part in the Papa John’s Trophy alongside other clubs from League One and Two as well as under-23 teams from some Premier League and Championship sides.
The competition, which begins with a group stage, starts in the week commencing 30 August.

Hide AdThe final day of the regular season will be on 30 April 2022 in League One and on the weekend of 7 and 8 May 2022 for Championship clubs.
The League One Play-Off Final will take place on Saturday, 21 May 2022 while the Championship Play-Off final is scheduled for Sunday, 29 May 2022.
Sheffield Wednesday are currently seven points from safety in the Sky Bet Championship with 12 games left to play.
The Owls, who are second from bottom, have a game in hand on Birmingham City in twenty-first place and just above the drop zone.
