Goals from Dennis Adeniran and Sylla Sow ended an 18-game unbeaten run for the Mackems and excerted just a little touch of revenge for the tie we don’t don’t talk about just yet.
Adeniran was the clear star man but there were impressive outings all over the field as the Owls cruised to a handsome win.
And there’s plenty for Darren Moore to think about too, given the win was earned by those on the fringes of the season so far.
Here are our player ratings from a pleasing evening at S6.
1. Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Dennis Adeniran was a clear man of the match..
..but what did we rate him and who else scored high? Take a look at our player ratings after Sheffield Wednesday cruised into the Carabao Cup second round. Photo: Steve Ellis
2. Cameron Dawson - 6
His first competitive Wednesday start in 651 days. Vocal but unfortunately for him had very little to do. Could've taken a crossword out with him. Will be very happy with a clean sheet on his return. Photo: Steve Ellis
3. Dominic Iorfa - 7
Tidy and composed, both on the ball and in defence. Along with the other defenders, didn't have a great deal of Sunderland threat to deal with, but did what he had to do he did with no fuss. Photo: Steve Ellis
4. Ben Heneghan - 7
Another strong outing in an impressive start to his Owls career. Will be frustrated not to have made more of a headed chance midway through the first half - off for Ihiekwe at half-time. Photo: Malcolm Bryce
