Shearer, speaking on the Match of the Day podcast alongside Gary Lineker and Micah Richards, was asked to rank 10 players in terms of their cult status in Premier League history, with both Paulo di Canio and Chris Waddle making it on there.
The former England striker placed Chris Waddle at number eight following his exploits in the English top flight, with Lineker waxing lyrical about the former Owl and his ability as a wide man.

Meanwhile, on Di Canio, who is probably more well-known elsewhere as a West Ham legend, Shearer said, “I think he would have been very interesting in the dressing room, I think he would have been amazing in there. But Ian Wright always says he was a great professional, and did everything right in training.
“Apparently he was teacher's pet with Harry Redknapp at West Ham. Harry signed so many players like that who were not easy to manage, and he was probably one of them, but Harry found a knack of doing it. But a very, very good player.”
It was Eric Cantona that topped Shearer’s list, followed by Matt Le Tissier and Paul Gascoigne, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (4), Jay-Jay Okocha (6), Mario Balotelli (7), David Ginola (9) and Faustino Asprilla (10) making up the rest of his top 10.
