United remained 14 points behind fourth-bottom Newcastle United after the weekend’s results, which saw the Blades lose to Fulham and the Magpies go down to defeat against Manchester United.
But games are running out for United to mount an unlikely survival bid and to make their task even more difficult, they will likely face reigning champions Liverpool this weekend without any of their regular back three after Chris Basham joined John Egan and Jack O’Connell in the Bramall Lane treatment room.
United, though, will not simply wave the white flag.

“They’re professional footballers, that’s what it says on their contracts. They have their professionalism and my attitude will be the same as it has been over the last three or four years.
“They understand that. They’ve got to keep going right to the end.
“We have an obligation and a commitment to our supporters and fellow players to keep going and see if we can get some results on the board between now and the end of the season.
