On loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers, the 22-year-old scored the first and last goals of United’s 4-0 win over Russell Martin’s side - a match which took place only 10 days after he returned to action following a nine week absence due to injury.
With United climbing to sixth into the Championship ahead of Wednesday’s game against fellow promotion hopefuls Blackburn Rovers, Heckingbottom said: “He’s come straight back in and his performances have improved with each game. Game on game, Morgan is getting better. He’s been a big player for this club already this season and we’re sure he’s going to continue being a really big player for the reasons I’ve just talked about.”
Gibbs-White made six appearances for City during another loan spell - this time in south Wales - last term. The visit of Rovers is expected to be his 21st for United - with those contests producing seven goals and five assists.
“Morgan had been on loan there (City),” Heckingbottom said. “I think he must be naturally fit because he’s come straight back in and pretty much just picked up from where he left off.”
“We all know how important he is and you need players like that, who can produce the things he can,” Heckingbottom added. “It’s not just Morgan, far from it, though. That’s because we’ve got lots of other really talented people here too.”
