The Bosnia and Herzegovina international has taken Basham’s place in United’s defence, impressing in an attacking role that Basham has essentially made his own over the last few years on the right of a back three.
After returning to fitness, Basham has taken his place on the bench in recent games and was given a rousing reception when he was introduced in place of George Baldock against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

Hide AdAhmedhodzic is expected to continue in the side at Luton Town on Friday and Basham said of his teammate 11 years his junior: “He’s probably the biggest competition I've had since I've been here, which is no disrespect to some quality players.
“There have been other international players coming in. But Anel has fitted in so well and hit the ground running, which is fantastic to see. It's great to have chats with him.
“There are still 41 games to go and I'm confident I'll get game time soon and I'll perform when I get the chance again.”
Asked about Ahmedhodzic’s qualities, Basham said: “I think he's good at everything. He's got everything in the locker, he can play across defence and he's been fantastic. I want him to keep doing well, he's the future of this football club and hopefully one day I can play with him, like I did the other day.
