Opinion: Why signing Nathan Tyson would be a shrewd free transfer for Chesterfield

The majority of the criticism centred on the fact he was 37-years-old with many feeling his best days were behind him.
We were all perhaps guilty of writing him off before he had even walked through the door.

But fast forward five months and the experienced striker, now 38, is someone most Blues supporters would happily welcome back after his impressive performances.
He made six appearances and scored three goals and claimed two assists.
Fair enough, all of his goals came in the second half against Ebbsfleet with his blistering 23-minute hat-trick.

Off the field, he was a popular member of the Chesterfield dressing room despite only being there for a short space of time.
On the first day of training he was already giving out advice to the younger players and telling his teammates where he wanted the ball to be played.
He is someone who wants to continue playing football until until he is 40 and his fitness and condition reflects that.

Hide AdJohn Pemberton called it spot on when he said: "Nathan has come in this morning and his body fat...he looks like a racing pigeon and that is what he has always been like.”
In my opinion, Tyson would be a shrewd free signing for the Spireites despite his age after his release from Notts County.
He won’t start every week but Pemberton himself has said more than once that he is a good impact player and we certainly saw evidence of that against Ebbsfleet.
He has scored 125 goals in his career so he is not a bad option to have off the bench and his experience will be invaluable
