OPINION: Gary Caldwell has his work cut out to build competitive squad
Rather dodgy defending gifted the Blades their first goal, but we’d already missed two early chances, which if they’d gone in could have set us up for a win.
For Paul McGuinn to score and then have Dan Gardener sent off a minute later was ecstasy followed by agony, it was inevitable that we’d have a backs to wall performance from then on.

Exactly as in the game at the Proact we bring our oldest player on, presumably to shore things up, one minute later, we concede and the game is over.
Off the pitch, Gary Caldwell has got his work cut out to assemble a squad that can at least challenge for the League 2 play offs on a budget of zero.
The problem with placating the fans with club statements about how much money the club has or hasn’t got, is that very few supporters now trust any information coming from 1866 Sheffield Road.

He wasn’t fit enough to play for us but at the same time managed to pass a medical at Bramall Lane, which has naturally led cynical fans to suggest that someone isn’t telling the truth.
One fan has posted online that Evans was injured but treated for the wrong injury, still he’s no longer our player and that’s the end of it.
Also somewhat intriguing is the post on our web board from Liam Graham’s brother trying to clear up the mess of what has happened to our man from New Zealand. Perhaps the club could issue a statement about what has happened to our mysterious player?

Hide AdLiam’s brother says the player was signed for us and also another team in the 2015/ 2016 season and would not have been eligible to play for the Spireites until the transfer window of 2016, so Graham went on loan to Whitehawk.
However Dean Saunders was sacked by Jan 2016 and Danny Wilson had never seen Liam Graham so therefore didn’t play him.
Gary Caldwell now knows who Liam Graham is; he’s been having rehab in Dubai and may play for New Zealand in the Confederations cup. Gary Caldwell will look at Liam in Pre-season and then make a ruling on whether he makes the squad for next year.
