'You are loved and missed by everyone': Touching tributes paid to teenager after drowning tragedy

Sam Haycock, aged 16, died after getting into difficulty in the water at Ulley Country Park on Friday, May 28.
The Year 11 Oakwood High pupil had formally left school that day and had visited the reservoir with friends.

Hide AdHis pals, who are said to have made ‘gallant efforts’ to prevent Sam from drowning, raised the alarm and a major search and rescue operation was mounted.
Sam’s body was recovered from the water a number of hours after his parents were informed of his disappearance.
Flowers, balloons, candles and photographs have been left on a bench close to the water’s edge.
Friends and relatives are among those to have placed items at the makeshift shrine.

Hide AdOne note on a bouquet of flowers reads: “Fly high beautify boy, you are loved and missed by everyone.”
Another says: “I love you millions. We all miss you dearly, You will not be forgotten.”
South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue has issued a warning about the dangers of open water swimming.
It said: “Please, if you're out and about in next week's forecast hot weather, be extra careful around open bodies of water such as lakes, quarries and reservoirs.

Hide Ad“And, if you're part of the many groups of young people that have been jumping into water to cool off - do not do this.
“Lakes, quarries, reservoirs and rivers can all be much colder than they look, and you have no idea what’s underneath.
“We really don't want to see any more tragedies in South Yorkshire waters this summer.”
