John Egan has become Sheffield United's new record signing after completing his move from Brentford.
The centre-half, capped twice by the Republic of Ireland, agreed a four year contract with Chris Wilder's side following a successful medical.
Although the fee United have paid to acquire his services is officially undisclosed, the statement confirming Egan's arrival acknowledged it is higher than the £4m which saw James Beattie arrive at Bramall Lane in 2007.The 25-year-old, who started his career with Sunderland, made one loan appearance for the South Yorkshire club earlier in his career.
