Andy Stewart, who is standing for Nigel Farage’s party in Doncaster North at the forthcoming General Election, said that one of his colleagues was subjected to the threats in Doncaster earlier this week by a man who said: “I’m going to kill you” and blamed the attack on left wing activists.
Police are now investigating and have confirmed they have spoken to a man about the incident.

Hide AdSpeaking about the incident on Twitter, Mr Stewart said: “Today the threats and the vile abuse we have been subjected to went to a whole new level.
“One of my colleagues was threatened with his life.
“We knew something like this could happen but when it actually happens its very frightening.”
“He’s since returned home, fearful for his life, not just because somebody said ‘I’m going to kill you, but ‘can you remember what happened in London? That will happen to you.”
“This was a threat from a particular vile sect in our society which seems to be overtaking politics in favour of militant abuse and vitriol.

“There’s no need for it.
"We’re no threat for violence, we are not right or left, we are just right or wrong. This needs to stop.”
Mr Stewart said the incident had been reported to police and a South Yorkshire Police spokesman confirmed a complaint had been made.
A spokesman said: “An investigation is ongoing after a report of a threat to kill directed at a General Election candidate was made to police at 10.30am on Tuesday (3 December).
