Sheffield and Doncaster stores at risk as gaming store Game announce plans to close 40 shops
and live on Freeview channel 276
The firm has branches in The Moor in Sheffield, Meadowhall and Doncaster’s Frenchgate Centre.
The chain has revealed a list of some of the stores which will close but has has said that more are at risk.

Hide AdIn a statement, the company said: “Game has today confirmed it intends to close 40 stores throughout the UK.
“To date 13 sites have had notice served including existing Game sites in Mansfield, Canterbury, Watford, Glasgow Fort and Leicester.
“Yesterday, notice was served on a further 14 sites impacting outlets owned mostly by Intu and New River. The sites include Derby, Norwich Chapelfield, Lakeside, Bexleyheath and Carmarthen.
“Game intends to serve notice on the additional sites in the near future.”

Hide AdA spokesman for Game added: “We are working closely with landlords throughout the UK to ensure that we do not have to vacate the 40 locations which could lead to a number of job losses.
“However, we are facing a challenging retail market and GAME with its extensive retail footprint, needs to restructure and landlords need to work with us in setting realistic, fair rents.”
The firm ha been wholly owned by the Frasers Group since June 2019 after a buyout by SportsDirect.com for £52 million.
The company was founded in 1992 and went into administration in 2012 before a buyout.
The firm has more than 300 stores across the UK.
