Letter: Yorkshire Cricket and Sheffield
It was great to see all the old photos of cricket at Bramall Lane in the Retro section on Monday.
Unfortunately I have to stress the word ‘old’ as I have been saddened over the last 20 or so years while the great game of cricket has been sidelined in Sheffield as far as the professional game is concerned anyway.

Hide AdYorkshire County Cricket club was formed at the Adelphi Hotel (another sad loss – but don’t get me started on that), in 1863 but last played any first class matches in Sheffield in 1996 – 25 years ago now.
I call them Leeds City Cricket Club as there is no interest at Headingley in playing anywhere else other than the money making Scarborough Festival.
If Derbyshire can play at Queen’s Park in Chesterfield then surely YCC can find room in their busy schedule to play the occasional first class match in their historic home – even if it is a limited overs match.
