Mayor praises fightback against crime
The Safer Doncaster Partnership, which reports statistics to the Government, has recorded an average of 1,873 crimes a month, compared to 2,219 in 2006/07.
Over the six-month period ending on September 30 this year, 11,236 crimes had been reported - a reduction year-on-year of 2,413 crimes.

Hide AdIn the same six month period in 2006/07, 13,649 crimes were reported.
Crime across all categories, from criminal damage through to domestic burglary and vehicle crime, was down on the previous year. The borough was looking at a six per cent fall as a target.
Mayor Martin Winter, is chairman of the partnership which includes police, Doncaster Council, Health Authority and other statutory and voluntary agencies.s
He said he was delighted with the figures.
He said: “This achievement demonstrates our zero tolerance to crime here in Doncaster and reinforces the message that crime and the fear of crime is falling across our borough.

Hide Ad“We are determined to improve on these results even further to make Doncaster the safest town to live in, work and visit.”
Supt Richard Tweed of Doncaster Police added: “Hitting a 15.6 per cent reduction in crime is a phenomenal achievement for everyone involved and demonstrates what can be achieved through excellent partnership-working.
“We are committed to continuing this outstanding work and the next six months will be focused on maintaining this progress,” he said.
