I loved time at Heeley school
There were four classrooms, one with a coal fire, no other heating and two toilets.
The playground was the alleyway down the side, no dining area, but we loved it.

Chop them down to size

Hide AdIn the ongoing saga of the SCC tree “preservation” programme, with the approach of the May 2018 local council elections, Star correspondents have quite rightly been questioning the timing of the recent cessation of tree felling by Amey, at the council’s instruction – to coincide with those elections and Labour’s wish to retain overall control of SCC.
Several writers have looked into their crystal ball and come up with the same prediction that this is not a mere coincidence!
All voters including “healthy tree and greenery loving supporters” should be made aware that you have the power to do something about the controlling Labour council culling policy. The Sheffield electorate voted them into office and they can just as easily vote them out. If you do not agree with their tree preservation policy put pen to paper – not just in The Star columns, but more effectively on your ballot paper at the May 2018 local elections.
There are 84 seats on the SCC. At the last elections they comprise 57 Labour, 19 Lib Dem, four Green, four UKIP. It will only take a loss of 15 current Labour seats to overturn their majority on the council and overall control. Any future alliance between Lib Dem, Green and UKIP parties on the tree issue will result in them having control of the council and allow them to amend or cancel the current tree culling policy of their predecessors.

Hide AdIf you really care about your trees don’t just sit back complaining to the Star and the council. Get off your backsides and cast your vote for any candidate who commits themselves to a true tree preservation policy. The Sheffield electorate have their own culling powers, use your vote and chop the current Labour-controlled council down to size. At least one prominent Labour cabinet member must be praying that he is not “dislodged” from office should his treehouse be felled by an irate electorate!

Looking for information
Bit of a long shot but here goes. I’m looking for information on a friend, Gregory Hawkins, and his daughter Francisca from Beighton, in Sheffield.
Francisca was going to university to study law and her father, ( English/German heritage and around 55 years of age), could possibly be a motor dealer.
If anyone has any information, please could they email me in confidence at [email protected]

Circus should pay for mess

Hide AdWell the circus has been to town, entertained many but left an eyesore behind.
Muddy roads and ripped- up verges leave an unsightly mess which obviously the circus should pay for and not the taxpayer as usual. Is parked on verges and obstructing a main road classed as a road traffic offence?

Other people in need
If they stick any more university and student accommodation buildings up in Sheffield there will be no land left for the rest of us.
Try to build more affordable housing – there are other people in need besides the academics who at the moment seem to have it all .

Volunteer in our shop

Hide AdBarnardo’s, the UK’s leading children’s charity, is asking people in the Dronfield area to come and volunteer in our friendly flagship children’s store in Dronfield and help raise vital funds for disadvantaged children.
Barnardo’s shops are a crucial source of the funding it needs to run services for the UK’s most vulnerable children, young people and families. Volunteers are the backbone those shops and the charity would not be able to do what it does without them.
Gail Sinclair, manager of the Dronfield shop says: “Our customers say that the Dronfield kids store is the best charity shop for children for miles around and they travel from Sheffield, Chesterfield and Nottingham to visit.
“The shop layout is designed for pushchairs and wheelchairs to get around easily and so children can sample the merchandise safely.

Our donors are the most amazing generous people and they amaze me how they sort out their donations and only bring child-related donations to our shop, and take the other donations to our standard store nearby.”
The shop is looking to recruit more volunteers, especially at weekends as are all of Barnardo’s shops in the Sheffield area. All volunteers are fully trained and are encouraged to take part in nationally recognised qualifications while they volunteer.

Stop and search?
Well I never! London Mayor Sadiq Khan seems to have a change of opinion regarding stop and search due to the number of stabbings etc in the biggest slum city in our country.
It doesn’t seem too long ago that the police were being castigated for doing just that and deemed racist.

Hide AdWho are all these lowlife that are getting away with murder?
No one seems to tell us, even the good old ‘impartial’ BBC are keeping shtum on the ethnicity of the perpetrators.
Maybe they don’t like talking about someone’s lovable and good little angels.
