Workers rupture water main after returning to repair crumbling road surface in Sheffield

Amey and contractors closed the road near High Storrs High School and huge planing machines, several vans and about 20 workers had just started.
It set off a river which flowed down High Storrs Road and on to Ringinglow Road. Water supplies in the Bents Green area were cut off temporarily, it is understood.

The company had returned to replace the potholed and patched road which was resurfaced in 2015.
It was one of the first to be done after Amey started on the city’s £2.2bn resurfacing scheme.
But the contract has been dogged by crumbling roads and random potholes appearing on quiet lanes such as Sheephill Road, Ringinglow, Stephen Hill in Crosspool and Victoria Road in Broomhall, as highlighted in this comment piece in The Star.

It claimed they were a fraction of the more than 500 miles of road already resurfaced under its Streets Ahead programme, and said Amey would foot the bill for repairs.
