And they are set to announce the identity of the new boss over the next two days.
Speculation was rife on Tuesday that former Peterborough United boss McCann was set to be handed the reins at the Keepmoat.
And McCann was backed into a 1/20 shot with bookmakers.
An announcement could come as soon as Wednesday with the new manager set to meet the press on Thursday if negotiations progress as planned.
