Trial of South Yorkshire police officer accused of attacking teenager after Sheffield Wednesday v Barnsley football match set to take place next year

PC William Sampson is charged with unlawful and malicious wounding following the incident which allegedly took place in Midland Street in February.
Police watchdog the Independent Office for Police Conduct completed its investigations in August last year and referred a file of to the Crown Prosecution Service, which made the decision to charge him.

Hide AdThe 26-year-old first appeared before Leeds Magistrates’ Court on December 7.
Today at Leeds Crown Court, a trial date was set for March 7, 2022 and is expected to last for five days.
No plea has yet been entered and a separate hearing has been listed for March 21 of this year at the same court.
The defence may attempt to have the trial vacated and, if unsuccessful, Sampson will be expected to make a plea.
