Sheffield stalker on restraining order jailed after insulting woman during 'chance' encounter

James Westrop, aged 21, of Park Hill, Swallownest, Sheffield, had been made subject to a restraining order when he pulled up next to the complainant’s car in Rotherham and insulted her, according to a Sheffield Crown Court hearing.
Benjamin Whittington, prosecuting, told the hearing on April 8 the defendant was already subject to a suspended prison sentence for two offences of stalking with fear of violence and he had been made subject to a restraining order not to contact the female complainant.

Hide AdMr Whittington claimed Westrop had tried to add the complainant to Snapchat and had allegedly phoned her three times but these matters were not subject to charges.
However, Mr Whittngton said the complainant had been in her vehicle when she saw the defendant driving and after she stopped he pulled-up alongside her and insulted her before driving away.
Westrop admitted breaching the restraining order after this incident on January 21.
Matthew Burdon, defending, said Westrop accepts the offence was committed soon after the imposition of a restraining order.

Hide AdHe added: “He says it was committed on impulse after a chance encounter and he now regrets that and he did not seek her out.”
Mr Burdon said that Westrop has suffered with tuberculosis and has undergone surgery on his bowel which has compromised his immune system.
Recorder Megan Rhys sentenced Westrop to 22 months of custody.
