Sheffield councillor sends message to police after innocent 12-year-old boy shot in gang war

A major investigation has been launched into the drive-by shooting in Arbourthorne, which left a young boy in hospital.
He was hit in his thigh with a bullet when a gun was fired from a car as it passed him and his friends as they stood in Northern Avenue on Sunday afternoon.

Hide AdPolice believe the youngster was an innocent bystander caught up in a feud between two rival gangs.
There have been a number of shootings in and around Arbourthorne over recent months.
A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.
He remains in police custody this morning.
Coun Ben Miskell, who represents Arbourthorne, said: “The community in Arbourthorne are relieved to hear that police officers have arrested a 30-year-old male in connection to the shooting of an innocent 12-year-old boy on Sunday.

Hide Ad“Since the incident people have been scared and angry, but most importantly I’ve seen people unite together to say enough is enough. “Arbourthorne will not accept violent crime in our area.”
He added: “While we are fully aware that more work is still to be done, we thank South Yorkshire Police for their ongoing support in this investigation, which will help to reassure the community that violent crime on the estate is being taken seriously.”
