Police issue 11 lockdown fines after Sheffield turns into ‘war zone’ on Bonfire Night

Officers issued 11 in total yesterday, including four at illegal gatherings for bonfires and firework displays.
Under national lockdown rules, households must not mix either inside or outside.

Hide AdOfficers issued nine £10,000 fines to the organisers of Halloween parties in Sheffield last weekend, sending a message that breaches will not be tolerated.
The fines handed out last night were each for £200.
South Yorkshire Police said: “Police handed out 11 Fixed Penalty Notices yesterday across South Yorkshire.
“Our dedicated Covid-19 response team issued four FPNs yesterday evening after being called to numerous reports of groups of people gathering for bonfires or fireworks displays.”
Earlier this week, Superintendent Paul McCurry, responsible for the way Covid regulations are enforced in the county, urged people to ‘follow the rules’.
He warned that those who blatantly and deliberately breach them will be fined.
