Judge's warning for Sheffield man caught with cannabis plants at his home

Police visited the home of Robert Anderson, aged 37, of Hazlebarrow Grove, Jordanthorpe, Sheffield, and found 12 cannabis plants, according to a Sheffield Crown Court hearing, after officers had originally gone to his flat concerning another matter.
James Baird, prosecuting, said: “On March 18, this year, officers attended an address on Hazlebarrow Grove, Sheffield, regarding a possible domestic dispute and arrived shortly after 8pm and knocked on the door.”

Hide AdMr Baird added that after police were allowed inside they found 12 cannabis plants in a bedroom with associated equipment and 20 cannabis saplings were found in an airing cupboard and officers recovered two jars of herbal cannabis.
The potential yield from the plants was estimated at between £4,000 and £6,000, the potential yield from the saplings was estimated at £4,000 and £11,000 and the two lots of dried herbal cannabis were valued at £190 and £110.
Anderson, who pleaded guilty to producing the class B drug, told police the cannabis was being grown for personal use.
Judge Rachael Harrison told Anderson: “Cannabis is illegal whether you agree or not is not my concern. If you come back for any cultivation of cannabis you can assume you are going to prison.”

Hide AdAnderson was sentenced to an 18-month community order with a 25-day Rehabilitation Activity Requirement and he was placed under a curfew running between December 19 and Janaury 3.
