Below are some of the more serious cases to have passed through Sheffield Crown Court this year including killers, sex-offenders and armed robbers.
A 17-year-old boy has been jailed for murder after he stabbed his 21-year-old victim in the chest, and four men who were involved in the sexploitation of a teenage girl have been jailed for rape.
Three men have been put behind bars for their part in the killing of a man during a confrontation, and in another case an armed robber struck twice at the same newsagent shop.
Another victim was in her bedroom when an offender came into her home armed with a knife, and more recently students were terrified when they were threatened by a man with an imitation firearm during a party.
But judges have seen fit to punish these offenders appropriately with custodial sentences of varying lengths.
