Thomas Prior, aged 37, of Hill Top Avenue, Athersley North, Barnsley, had been subject to a non-molestation order to keep away from his mother but he breached the order by attending her home in Barnsley, according to Sheffield Crown Court.
Brian Outhwaite, prosecuting, told the December 22 hearing: “On November 27, this year, police received a report from someone saying the defendant was regularly in breach of the order against him and was attending his mother’s address and asking his mother for money.”

Mr Outhwaite added the constant requests for money had an effect on his mother’s mental health and her daughter described her mother’s suffering as “extreme mental torture”.
Prior, who has previous convictions, pleaded guilty to breaching the non-molestation order and admitted breaching a suspended prison sentence which had been imposed after he had assaulted a police officer.
Richard Canning, defending, said Prior was homeless when he went to his mother’s home and he asked for money because he has a drug problem and he feels bad about that and wants to get clear of drugs and to start a new life.
