Ryan Morgan, aged 22, of Cripps Close, Maltby, Rotherham, was detained by police and found with a knife in his shorts, according to a Sheffield Crown Court hearing on September 10.
Recorder Abdul Iqbal told Morgan: “Police officers came across you when they were in fact pursuing unknown offenders. You ran from police raising suspicion and they apprehended you and searched you and found a bladed weapon on you and I have seen a photo of it and it is a frightening implement designed to cause slashing-type injuries.”

Hide AdMr Jones, prosecuting, said the serrated knife was found in the pocket of Morgan’s shorts under a pair of tracksuit trousers.
Morgan pleaded guilty to possessing a blade in public after he was detained in July, 2019, and he has subsequently breached a suspended prison sentence which had been imposed for possessing an offensive weapon in public.
The court heard Morgan was due to be dealt with in December, last year, but his sentence was deferred until September to consider his prospects of rehabilitation.
Richard Adams, defending, said Morgan had previously been attacked by someone with a machete and he has suffered with PTSD and hyper-vigilance and had armed himself.

Recorder Iqbal sentenced Morgan to nine months of custody suspended for 24 months with a Drug Rehabilitation Requirement and a six-month curfew. Morgan was also fined £100.
