As Saturday, February 22, marks 76 years since the tragedy, let’s take a look back at last year’s huge memorial service and how thousands of city residents marvelled at a flypast by British and American air forces to mark the occasion.
The service was also an opportunity to thank community stalwart Tony Foulds - who was one of the children playing in the park when the aircraft crashed – and has made it his life’s mission to not forget the scarifice made by the crew that fateful day in 1944.
Since last year’s memorial Tony has taken to the skies to fly the same route the Flying Fortress took 76 years ago and has been given a star on the Sheffield Hall of Fame.
