Book remembers iconic nights at Chesterfield's Aquarius night club and performers who took to the stage
Author John Cuttriss says his book Aquarius Nightclub – Chesterfield is the perfect distraction to the tough pandemic.
He said: “This year has been so different to any other in my long living memory, being in ‘lockdown’ has made life so difficult for everybody around the world and we are looking for a release. Since March most of my time has been spent finally putting together a new book about the Aquarius Night Club to which I have spent many years in its research.”

John said: “We still have a few who are still performing such as Colin ‘Fingers’ Henry who I met recently and saw his act on a cruise ship, Duncan Norvelle is still working in spite of a recent illness. They both have contributed to my book, Colin has written the ‘foreword’ and Duncan has included his memories with some assistance from myself as ghost writer.”
John added: “Whittington Moor has always seen a lot of entertainment. Recently we have seen the likes of Elton John, Tom Jones and Lionel Richie perform at the Chesterfield football stadium across the road. The famous Chesterfield Races were held on nearby Stand Road with the park being the scene of many a circus and annual fairground and so, when plans were on the table for a night club, it was given a Spanish theme and reference to the signs of the Zodiac which was used for the name of the disco lounge.
"The frontage at night was ‘lit up Vegas style’ with a ‘Totem’ water feature which was a beacon for visiting parties from Sheffield, Nottingham and as far away as Leicester.
