This is how one Sheffield charity is combating loneliness amongst old people

SCCCC - or Sheffield Churches Council for Community Care - is a registered charity that supports older people in the city.
It is attempting to reduce loneliness amongst older people by providing them with an alternative form of communication whilst in the safety of their own home.

Hide AdDot, a local Sheffielder in her 70s said: “I think it’s a brilliant idea. Although some people of our generation have grasped the likes of the Internet and mobile phones, a lot of us, like me, haven’t.
“I’m someone who still finds out news by the newspaper, tv or through direct word of mouth.
“With the current situation, it does feel a little lonelier because you can’t go out and see friends for a coffee and natter.
“I used to have a pen pal years ago but the trend kind of disappeared didn’t it? I’d look forward to receiving and replying to an actual physical letter again.”

Hide AdThose interested in the pen pal scheme are asked to send letters to the organisation based at President Buildings on Savile Street East.
SCCCC says: “We constantly strive to combat loneliness & isolation in Sheffield. As we can't visit our service users we are asking people to write letters to an older person, send them to us & we will pass them on.
