A spokesman said: “In line with government advice, only shops selling essential items in Frenchgate Shopping Centre will be open at this time to continue to service our local community.

The centre’s car park is open as usual.
Earlier this week, Prime Minister Boris Johnson ordered all non essential stores across Britain to close in a bid to prevent the virus spreading.
