Six more patients die in Sheffield as South Yorkshire passes grim coronavirus milestone

The latest figures show that Sheffield has 1,901 confirmed cases of coronavirus as the UK prepares to enter its sixth week of lockdown.
185 hospital patients who tested positive have sadly died – an increase of 6 within a 24 hour reporting period.

Hide AdElsewhere in the county, Doncaster has 372 confirmed cases and the town’s death toll is 74. Doncaster has not reported any deaths in 24 hours.
Rotherham has reported 589 cases of the virus and has seen 89 deaths- an increase of seven.
While Barnsley has 544 cases and has seen its death toll rise to 62- an increase of one.
This brings the total of deaths throughout the county to 410.

Hide AdThe number of confirmed deaths across the entirety of England is now 18,420. Data shows that patients were aged between 28 and 100-years-old.
22 of the 336 patients (aged between 41 and 94 years old) had no known underlying health condition.
Their families have been informed.
The figures were provided by Public Health England as part of their daily breakdown.
However, they could be higher as they do not include deaths that happened in care homes or the community.

Hide AdMinisters have warned it is ‘still too soon’ to start lifting restrictions after the UK death toll topped 20,000.
The Government’s chief scientific adviser Sir Patrick Vallance said previously it would be a “good outcome” if the number of UK deaths could be kept below 20,000.
