Doncaster records more deaths than whole of Australia as coronavirus toll reaches 90

Newly released NHS figures have seen the death toll rise by 11 on yesterday’s figure of 79.
It means Doncaster now has more deaths from COVID-19 than the whole of Australia, where 89 fatalities have been recorded.

Hide AdThe figures do not include deaths in the community or care homes and it is thought the actual total of deaths across the UK is double the current total.
Nationally, 22,123 people have died – and there are now fears the UK could record the worst death toll in Europe.
Currently, only Spain, France and Italy have more deaths, while the USA has the most number of fatalities, with more than one million cases and nearly 60,000 deaths – higher than the figure for the number of Americans who died in the Vietnam War.
There have been 411 cases of coronavirus in Doncaster and more than 125 people have been successfully allowed to recuperate at home after receiving treatment.

Hide AdThe figures relate to deaths recorded in the last 24 hours across hospitals in the Doncaster and Bassetlaw NHS Trust, which includes Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Worksop’s Bassetlaw Hospital and Mexborough’s Montagu Hospital.
Across South Yorkshire, there have been 198 deaths in Sheffield and 2009 cases, 96 deaths in Rotherham from a total of 655 cases and 78 deaths in Barnsley from a total of 590 cases.
NHS England says a further 445 deaths have been recorded since yesterday taking the total in the country to 19,740.
