Six more people being treated for the deadly bug have passed away in Sheffield’s hospitals, according to the most recent data released today (January 5), bringing the total coronavirus-related fatalities across the city to 624.
A further death was recorded in Doncaster, where the death toll stands at 580, and in Rotherham there have now been 440 deaths after one more was recorded.

Nationwide a further 582 people who tested positive for coronavirus have died in hospital in England, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths reported in hospitals to 52,395.
Patients were aged between 29 and 103. All except 25, aged between 56 and 101, had known underlying health conditions.
The deaths took place between November 5 and January 4, with the majority being on or after January 1.
