Law firm to hold Immigration School for Sheffield A-Level students
and live on Freeview channel 276
Fragomen LLP’s offices in Sheffield and London will host the virtual school for five evenings between October 13 and November 10 in a bid to help students who are looking to gain a career in either immigration law or the legal sector in general.
Every other summer, the firm has welcomed work experience students to spend time at it’s offices but this has not been possible due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Hide AdIt now hopes that attendance of the evening school will be a great talking point at interviews with future employers and will prove a useful extra line for students who may have had less opportunities this year.
Ian Robinson, partner at Fragomen, said: “We were watching all the issues with the A-Level results in August – it was such a shame on top of everything else over the last 12 months. Lockdown has made it so much harder for them to get work experience so we wanted to help.
"I know from lots of experience of interviewing graduates, you really want them to have had useful and interesting experiences and do well – ideally work experience or summer jobs, so that they can distinguish themselves.
"We decided to set up the school on the basis that anyone can dial in and join. We wanted it to have an interesting title, something that I as an interviewer would seize upon and say ‘oh you’ve attended an Immigration School ,what was involved there?”

Hide AdMo Jama, a trainee solicitor with Fragomen’s Sheffield office added: "It's targeted at people who would like to one day work in law, not necessarily immigration law, but just in the legal sector. People who aren’t sure yet or have an interest in the subject will also enjoy it, because immigration is so topical.”
Participants will receive expert advice on how to get a job in law – including how to produce a CV and prepare for an interview – and will hear from civil servants to understand what it is like to work in government, as well as learning from MPs about the politics of immigration and how public opinion drives policy.
There will also be other sessions on an array of subjects such as Human Rights, one of which will be held by Talent Beyond Boundaries an organisation which works to connect skilled refugees with job opportunities across the globe.
The school will be beneficial to students who picked up their A-Level results or equivalent qualifications this summer, but other students are welcome.
