Jonathan McGregor, aged 24, of Kyle Close, Southey Green, was one of three men involved in a raid in which a 63-year-old man was shot in his home. They broke into a house in Hartley Brook Road, Shiregreen, last June and a gun was fired. The homeowner was blasted in his stomach and had to have part of his bowel removed and leg amputated. McGregor was found guilty of grievous bodily harm, attempted robbery and possession of a firearm after a trial in December and was sentenced for his crimes on Friday. Detective Inspector Paul Wilson, of South Yorkshire Police, said: “The victim in this case suffered life-changing injuries as a result of this highly traumatic and senseless attack from McGregor. “He had to have half of his bowel removed and his leg partially amputated following the injuries he received. "I hope that this significant jail sentence, and knowing that McGregor is now behind bars, can help the victim to move forward and help him with his recovery process. “I’d like to praise the victim for the bravery he has shown throughout this investigation and I wish him well in his continued recovery. “This was a complex investigation with few witnesses and as such I am pleased with the result the investigative team have achieved. This is a lengthy sentence and should serve as a warning to any individual who gets involved in firearms crime that this will not be tolerated and long prison terms await. “McGregor is a violent individual and I’m pleased that he is now behind bars where he cannot commit further crime and cause harm to members of the public."
